Being lean, fit and healthy was easy for me until I went away to university and started putting on weight. I then began a busy career, combined with having three children, and over the years went from a slim size 8-10 to a much larger size 18+.
With my children all at school, and more time available, I realised I had no excuse not to regain my fitness and lose weight. I had always loved exercise classes, but over the years never had enough time or energy to commit and my activity levels had fluctuated and eventually dropped to zero.
So I started eating very simple, sensible meals - cutting out all the high sugar and high fat snacks and using a smaller dinner plate to ensure my portion sizes were realistic. Over the course of a year, I slowly but steadily went from a size 18 to a size 10, losing about 5.5 stone. I also ran my first 5k, then 10k and then a half marathon. I have kept that weight off and still maintain the simple ethos of keeping fit and eating well.
My family and friends were always very encouraging, but I was also very lucky to meet some really professional, knowledgeable and impartial fitness instructors and personal trainers who gave me brilliant advice and support. I was looking for a new career path and was encouraged by several professionals in the industry to retrain. I now hold the following qualifications and offer bespoke Personal Training, as well as several group classes including a weight loss programme; indoor cycling; abs, back and core; circuits; and spin and pump.
