Don’t worry - as part of your initial consultation I will ask about your current and past activity levels. We will also look at your general lifestyle as well as taking some body measurements and assessing your basic fitness.. This will give me a good basis on which to plan exercises at a level that is suitable for your needs and abilities. During your Personal Training sessions, I will be leading your exercise routine and will show you what to do with close supervision throughout. I will adapt exercises if you feel they are too difficult or if you find they are not challenging enough!

The most important thing is to feel comfortable. Loose clothing and trainers are ideal. Clothing made from sweat-wicking fabrics or natural fibres are best for comfort when exercising. Ladies may find that a well fitting supportive sports bra also gives them more confidence. It’s also a good idea to bring a bottle of water and a towel.

With me as your Personal Trainer, you have several options. You can train at your own home, using indoor or outdoor space - I will bring everything needed and you only need a clear, safe space - the average living room is ideal. This is also perfect if you have small children or work from home. Another option is to train in your local park or recreation ground - again, I will bring everything needed and we can also make full use of any natural or built objects for your workout! You can also train with me at Downton Leisure Centre, where the gym has a great range of cardiovascular and resistance machines. If you haven’t been to a gym before, this is a great chance to get to know the equipment with me by your side. DLC members use the gym for free, non-members pay a small admission fee.

During the initial consultation, we will concentrate on taking stock - we will look at your current lifestyle, activity levels and take some benchmark body measurements. We will also set goals so that you have a clear understanding of what you are aiming for and how to get there. For subsequent sessions, I will plan a bespoke training programme, based on your fitness level and abilities and personal preferences. I will guide you through this and adapt exercise as necessary to ensure you feel comfortable and confident, but also challenged. At each session, we will also review your general activity levels and look at your food diary, as appropriate. Every individual will have different goals and everyones Personal Training session will be unique to their needs. I will support you to feel confident in achieving your goals both during our training sessions and in the times between.

You don’t need to be a budding Masterchef to eat well. The principles of a nutritionally balanced, healthy diet are based on eating well and in appropriate quantities - this often means keeping food as simple and as natural as possible. As your Personal Trainer, I will ask you to keep a food diary which we will review together. I can then help you to plan meals and make suggestions for easy food preparation, based on your needs and lifestyle.

Good news - the female body is not built to bulk up! Women do not have the same natural levels of testosterone as men, so will not develop into ‘muscle-men’. And even better - resistance training (working with weights, or your own body weight), will help increase your lean muscle mass and make you appear more toned, which in turn will increase your metabolism to burn more fat. Resistance training can also benefit your health other ways, such as improved posture; increased bone mineral density; increased joint stability; and reduced risk of developing osteoporosis.

The key to successful, long term weight loss is often making simple and sustainable changes to your overall lifestyle. Getting fit and eating well go hand in hand to allowing you to enjoy life better. But that doesn’t mean you have to become a gym bunny and many people simply won’t have time or enjoy that. As your Personal Trainer, I can help you look for ways of increasing your activity levels around your work, family and other commitments. For your training sessions with me, I can come to your home, using indoor or outdoor space, so that you save precious time and get the most out of your sessions.
